Healthy Coffee Recipe: Herbal Elixir with Sun Potion

While I’m all about tasting all the full-bodied flavor of Written Coffee, sometimes I need a little sweetness to spice up my afternoon. After a year-long stint in LA, I discovered the power of elixirs and superfoods – aka, you can drink your way to glowing skin and better health.

I’ll preface this story with a warning: I’ve been known to jump on the health fad train. Between juices and far-out superfoods, my kitchen resembles a graveyard of wellness-trends past. Sure, the majority of these fads came and went faster than you can say “nope,” but some stuck, which is, I guess, why we’re here telling this story in the first place.

A few months ago, while reading through Chalkboard Mag – my guilty-ish pleasure – I came across a recurring theme: herbs. For. Everything. Dry skin? There’s an herb for that. Stress? There’s an herb for that, too. The next few hours were marked with endless Googling and the casual stalking of Sun Potion, my answer to glowing skin, so Byrdie (and many others) told me.

Which leads me to the point of this article. Have I lost you yet? After many hours on the site – and on this site, and this site – I decided on TOCOS, aka rice bran solubles that promote healthy skin and facilitate the removal of toxins from the body. It’s packed with vitamins E and D, which is why it's been known to help you "drink your way to better skin."

Some say it tastes like dessert, others think it looks like a pile of sawdust and tastes like a crumbled brown rice cake. Either way, I think you’ll love this creamy recipe, perfect for an afternoon treat.

Here’s a quick, easy, and delicious way to prepare your Written Coffee:

6 oz brewed Written Coffee
6 oz Milk – I'm obsessed with Califia Farms Toasted Coconut-Almond milk
1-2 generous tbsps Sun Potion’s TOCOS

Blend all ingredients in a Ninja or blender, and enjoy in your favorite mug. Pro-tip: try it iced for the perfect summer refresher.
